Artists & Muses includes a number of works that have never been shown in Sweden before, and the exhibition offers a glimpse into Robert Mapplethorpes life and friends in the 70´s and 80´s New York.
The Mapplethorpe exhibition includes portraits of Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, David Hockney and Keith Haring among others as well as some images of his muses like Lisa Lyon, Maryanne, Sonia Resika and not the least there are 3 portraits of Grace Jones at the famous photo shoot where she was body painted by Keith Haring with Andy Warhol as the creative director. On top of this, the famous jewelry designer, David Spada, designed Grace Jones body jewelry for the photo shoot.
Most of the photographs in the exhibition have been included in many Mapplethorpe retrospectives as well as a number of books, catalogues and articles over the last 30 years. The photographs are all made in limited editions of 10 and in some cases only 5 copies. The works are either signed by the artist or certified by The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation and all originate from the Foundation.
